TEAM Latinissimo 2010
Deepika is a sweet, young and ambitious lady of Fijian descent born right here in Auckland in the sign of Aquarius.
One day, one of her best friends asked her to join her salsa class, she went and never looked back! Since then she has performed and competed with Salsa gaining a National title!
In the daytime she works as an Account Executive for the advertising agency Origami. Her career goal is to one day to be an Account Director!
Deepika is has not had a formal dance training, but she is devoted to dance. She had done many styles such as traditional Indian dancing for 3 years, Bollywood for 5 years, tried out Hip Hop for a few months, she was one of 6 choreographers for Auckland Girls Grammar Stage Challente in 2006 and tried ballet for 6 weeks. It was in ballet she learned the technique of spinning. However more recently, her accomplishments have been 2009 NZ Salsa Beginners Champion and 2009 NZ West Coast Swing Amateur Strictly Champion. At the time, Deepika had only been dancing West Coast Swing for 10 months! Besides all this she is out social dancing every week!
I asked Deepika how her experience with TEAM Latinissimo has been so far;
It's been great! Gian and Masha are exceptional tutors I feel like I have learnt so much and I've only been with Latinissimo less than ten weeks – literally. I have so much more to gain from them and I would recommend Gian and Masha to anyone who wants to learn and grow as a dancer. After all, they are the best in NZ!
What would I take from this experience? I would take friends, technique, awesome tricks and a huge smile to name a few – oh and a pretty cool Latinissimo t-shirt!
But seriously, everything I take away will be evident on stage with a huge smile. I've wanted to be a part of Latinissimo ever since I saw them at Nationals 2009 – and here I am!
Something you may not know about Deepika is that she was around ten she learnt how to type on a braillewriter and could even write sentences in Braille. She says she wouldn't be able to do it now but defefinitely back then! Also, she can juggle!
You can see Deepika perform with TEAM Latinissimo C at upcoming events!
