Enrique Johns

EnriqueEnrique Johns (RSA) south_africa

Joined Team Latinissimo 2010

Enrique is incredibly charismatic and charming! Not only does he know how to dance, but he is also a true performer! He was born and raised in the colorful and exotic country of South Africa in the sign of Virgo to a South African mother and an Italian father.

At the age of 13 Enrique and his family made the move to New Zealand.

Enrique took up Latin dancing soon after arriving to NZ and after seeing a Latin dance competition. He explains in his own words how he got into Latin dancing;

"Hot girls!! Wink I got invited to a competition by a gorgeous girl and here I am...!"

That was 4 years ago and he has not looked back since! Enrique picked up Salsa with ease! With this natural sense of flavor, rhythm and background in Latin, this boy had all the potential to take on Salsa... - and so he did! After a last minute decision and only 3 weeks out of the New Zealand Salsa Nationals, Enrique partnered up with Team Latinissimo member Deepika Goundar to compete in the Intermediate level category and were crowned Champions in their division!

At his young age, Enrique has already taken on a few dance styles such as hip hop, contemporary, ceroc, all the Latin and Ballroom styles and now Salsa! His achievements so far include D-Grade Latin Champion in Australia, NZ C-Grade New Vogue Champion, 2x time NZ Latin Champion. Today Enrique competes in B and A Grade Latin, the 2 top grades. He has also been part of a Hip Hop crew winning collage competitions 4 consecutive times!

In the daytime, Enrique is boat building apprentice.

I asked Enrique how his experience with TEAM Latinissimo has been;

"Its been awesome, I learnt "Mr Whippy??"! Seriously, its been awesome, lots of nice people and great dancing! I have learnt that anything is possible if you just try and have fun!

Enrique also tells me he hasn't had a girlfriend yet... And he loves to go clubbing and partying, now that he is legal! He also skate boards and snow boards, mainly snowboard though as he is better at snow boarding than skating! He also says that every day, is his best experience! If you haven't seen Enrique perform with TEAM Latinissimo yet, make sure you catch him next time!
