Reggaeton

reggaeton3_200px_200px_optReggaeton (also referred to as Latin Hip Hop) is a type of dance music with beginnings in Jamaica and made popular in Panama and Puerto Rico in the mid-1990s. It has now become a very popular genre all over Latin-America. Reggaeton - also spelled Reggaetón and hispanicised as Reguetón - blends Reggae with Jamaican dancehall and American hip hop genres, with additional influences from electronic, bomba, plena, bachata and other styles. This gives Reggaeton its distinct Latin touch.

Did you know? It was Jamaican immigrants brought in to build the Panama Canal in the mid-1970s who brought Reggae music with them and introduced it to the local population. It was here that Reggaeton evolved. Without Panamanian ragga deejays like "El General", Reggaeton would never have caught on.
