Thu 28 Jul, 2011 - San Juan, Puerto Rico
Gian & Masha represented both New Zealand and Australia at the recent World Salsa Open in San Juan, Puerto Rico (27-30 July). At the same time they added to NZ salsa history as they were the first and only NZ representatives at this event to date and made the entire Puerto Rican audience and online viewers all over the world aware of NZ salsa!
The Puerto Rico Salsa Congress celebrated its 15th anniversary and the World Salsa Open celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The World Salsa Open is a very challenging competition since it is as the name states "Open". Meaning everything goes! There are no separate categories for cabaret, on 1 or on2, etc. for professional coupels, everyone goes in to the same category.Competitors come mainly from Latin-America, such as Venzuela, Brazil, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Colombia, Guatemala, Martinique, Guyana, Panama and Puerto Rico to name a few. USA, Italy, Spain and New Zealand were the only non-Latin-American countries. Gian & Masha made it to the semi-finals to eventually finish in 15th place out of the 45 competing professional couples.
1st place went to Spain's Adrian & Anita for the 3rd time at this competition. 2nd place went to Brazil and 3rd place to Puerto Rico.
